The Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 900 staff from 55 countries.
Context And Mission
The objective of this position is to work in the context of the SMARTY project enhancing processor designs prototyped in FPGAs as part of a young and dynamic team researching on hardware processor designs for domains with reliability requirements. The postdoc is expected to have some experience (either in industry or academia) on hardware design and modelling, and performance validation
Key Duties
- Perform research through low-level software designs, hardware prototyping in simulators and/or FPGA for processors with reliability requirements as part of a team
- Learn and participate in verification and validation activities of the developments performed
- Coordinate with a local team at BSC
Requirements
- Education
- BSc in Computer Science
- Master in advanced and/or HPC computing
- PhD in safety of low-level software in critical embedded domains like automotive
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Recognized expertise in the RTOS and low-level system software in critical embedded systems
- Previous knowledge on high-performance hardware for critical embedded systems
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Knowledge on processor microarchitecture (e.g. Gaisler, Arm, Infineon, Intel, or AMD processors among others) is welcome
- Knowledge on electronics is welcome
- Experience with FPGA use and debug tools is also welcome

- Ability to conduct independent research, develop innovative solutions, and take initiative
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Collaborative mindset and the capacity to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Conditions
The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department. We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures. Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration. Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement. Starting date: asap
