Director, Early Clinical Research

This is a new role in the department and is key to delivering the integration of clinical imaging across R&I; indications in early-stage clinical trials. Through close working with experimental medicine colleagues, you will provide strategic and technical expertise into the conception and implementation of imaging endpoints to be included in all phases of clinical development. You will be experienced in literature research and take a lead on frequent interaction with internal and external key experts. You possess excellent analytical skills, able to process large amounts of data and identify quality issues as well as new opportunities for analyses. You will support the implementation of imaging protocols across development programs and provide training and support to the wider clinical team. You will also have or develop a broad understanding of the landscape of evolving imaging technology and vendors working within the imaging space globally. You will have the opportunity to mentor colleagues within the department to take a more active role in implementing an imaging strategy into the Clinical Development Plan (CDP).
In this role, you will also work as Clinical scientist or Medical Director depending on your experience, in the early phase clinical project team. You will take responsibility for the design, conduct, monitoring, data interpretation and reporting of individual clinical trials adhering to Good Clinical Practice and regulatory requirements.
You will deliver the medical scientific strategy for the CDP and be responsible for acting as a renowned expert in your own disease/drug field.
You will be a highly motivated, interactive, and creative individual, able to able to build strong engagement externally and internally across all relevant functions and overcome challenges with great team-working skills! You are a skilled and effective written and verbal communicator, able to present scientific designs and results to multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders. You will work as a member of a diverse and motivated team of researchers spanning across multiple divisions and geographies within Biopharmaceuticals R&D.
Essential for the role
- MD with imaging related specialist diploma (radiologist), and/or imaging related scientific doctoral degree (PhD), or other professional training related to clinical imaging, or science related degree with practical experience related to clinical imaging modalities (CT, MRI, PET, SPECT)
- Practical experience from working with quantitative image analysis in a clinical and/or academic research setting, with an understanding of image acquisition and reconstruction protocols
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional setting
Desirable for the role
- For MD, at least 3 years clinical experience from a specialist position OR PhD with at least 5 years of experience working with imaging in a clinical setting
- Knowledge and experience in lung function and other physiological assessments is desired
- Experience of supporting clinical trials, in particular Phase II and Phase III, preferably with an imaging component
- At least 3 years of experience from working in biotech or pharmaceutical industry is desirable
