EMBL Barcelona is a new research unit focusing on Tissue Biology and Disease Modelling. We aim to go beyond the molecular and cellular scale, integrating gene circuits with a tissue-level quantitative understanding of tissues and organs, both healthy and diseased. We are seeking to recruit a research technician to cover for a maternity absence in the laboratory of Dr Maria Bernabeu at the EMBL Barcelona.

Your role

The successful candidate would be responsible for providing technical support for all projects running in the laboratory and general lab management.

Tasks will include:

  • Lab setup and management: Purchasing materials, reagents, equipment and tools for the lab.
  • Coordinate international shipments.
  • Coordinate orders and deliveries.
  • Basic reporting of budget.
  • Coordinate with the rest of research technicians for the correct function of the Unit.
  • Keep the lab organized and clean.
  • Basic maintenance of equipment.
  • Support to fabricate 3D microvessels.
  • Generation of collagen for other lab members.
  • Preparation of cell media and buffers.
  • Expansion of primary human cell lines to generate cryovials for other lab members.
  • Human cell culture (primary and iPSC).
  • Molecular biology work (e.g., PCR, RT-PCR, ELISA, IFA)

Grading: 4, 5 or 6; depending on qualifications and experience

  • a Bachelor or Master’s degree in biology or related life science field
  • background in basic molecular biology and tissue culture techniques
  • strong organization skills to keep the laboratory up and running
  • openness to learn new techniques to support projects from the lab
  • strong communication skills to interact with internal/external contacts
  • fluency in English

You might also have

  • Knowledge of the Spanish language is advantageous but not required.
